NEVER SEAL AGAIN WITH IMPEDE INTRASEAL
Built in Concrete Sealer!
Impede® IntraSeal is a water-repelling additive that is included in concrete at the ready mix plant. Some of the unique benefits are:
- Protects 100% of Concrete Starting on Day 1
- Reacts Chemically to Become a Permanent Part of Concrete
- Eliminates the Labor Cost of Sealing-by-Hand
- Reduces Concrete Maintenance

Protect Your Concrete!
Impede® IntraSeal is a non chloride, non-corrosive liquid water repellent admixture designed for use in ready mix concrete. Intraseal is to be used in the following applications:
- Interior Slabs and Walls
- Exterior Slabs and Walls
- Cast-in-Place Concrete
- Precast Concrete
About IntraSeal
Impede® IntraSeal provides the ultimate protection against water penetration and deterioration from deicing salt and brine. This is achieved because IntraSeal chemically reacts with cement to form strong water-repelling bonds throughout the whole concrete structure. IntraSeal meets all ASTM C494 Type S requirements including: set times, strength retention, shrinkage, and durability.

Why Concrete?
Concrete can add value to your property because its attractive, durable, and has a much longer lifespan than other options. Concrete requires maintenance to prevent accelerated deterioration caused by water penetration. Standard concrete absorbs water like a dry sponge. This water expands and contracts during the winter, creating powerful stress within the concrete that results in surface cracks. Moreover, deicing salts used to treat roadways in winter dissolve and penetrate concrete and break down the bonds that hold concrete together.
The Solution
Impede® IntraSeal offers built-in protection that combats water penetration from the inside-out. IntraSeal is added to the concrete before the pour and protects 100% of the concrete from day 1. By acting as an integral sealer, IntraSeal eliminates the time and labor of applying a topical sealer by hand.

RILEM Repellency Testing
Performance You Can See. A Reputation You Can Trust
RILEM Repellency Testing is a method used to assess the water-repellent performance of concrete by measuring the rate of water absorption using a standardized tube device. Repellency testing of treated and untreated concrete samples clearly shows that concrete with Impede® IntraSeal in the mix protects against water absorption over time.
Fast Patch Concrete
A fast patch mix is concrete designed to set and gain strength quickly. This is essential for departments of transportation when completing repair work on interstates, highways, and busy streets. A typical fast patch mix may be ready for traffic within a 5-hour window. These mixes rely heavily on high cement content and calcium chloride to achieve set and strength goals. However, this combination can be extremely challenging to work with. Current fast patch mixes only allow 30 minutes after batching before the concrete becomes unworkable. These mixes have also historically had reduced long-term durability. This is a major drawback as it leads to more frequent interstate and highway lane closures for repair.
Premiere Concrete Admixtures is heavily involved in research and development to support local and state departments of transportation. Recently, Premiere demonstrated a new fast patch mix design that drastically improves on current fast patch mixes. The design is appealing to departments of transportation due to an improvement in workability. Premiere’s fast patch more than doubled workable time without sacrificing rate of set. In other words, the concrete remained workable for over an hour, but still gained its desired strength within the 5 hour target window.
The increase in work-ability isn’t the only benefit of the new mix. The design was also made to increase long-term durability. This was achieved in-part thanks to the addition of Impede® IntraSeal. IntraSeal creates a water-repelling barrier throughout concrete, and is known for reducing the effects of freeze-thaw damage and brine penetration on streets and roadways. This is an essential component to durability in concrete that is treated during winter months with deicing chemicals. Impede® IntraSeal has been used in municipal roadways to increase durability, but fast patch is a new application of the technology.
Should You Cure?
It is always a good idea to cure concrete. Curing concrete is defined as providing adequate moisture, temperature, and time to allow the concrete to achieve the desired properties for its intended use. This would mean maintaining a relative humidity in the concrete greater than 80%, a temperature greater than 50°F, and for a time typically ranging from 3 to 14 days depending on the specific application. When these recommendations are properly specified and performed in the field, the final properties of the concrete mixture will be achieved.
All curing applications should begin immediately after the last finishing procedure. When using Impede® IntraSeal, it is especially critical that water-based curing compounds be applied at that time. Shortly after the final set, Impede® IntraSeal’ chemical reaction that creates water repellency begins to form. The concrete then becomes hydrophobic, which will caused water to bead on the surface. The results of waiting too long to apply water-based material will end up in an uneven blotching of the material. If there is a desire to apply a curing compound or cure and seal after final set it is recommended to use a solvent-based acrylic product.
There are other benefits to applying a solvent-based acrylic cure and seal beyond curing. First, it will help keep the surface of the concrete from drying out due to evaporation caused by low humidity, wind, or both. This can protect the concrete surface from the potential of shrinkage cracks or crazing. Second, applying a solvent-based acrylic cure and seal will create an additional membrane to help keep deicing chemicals from coming into direct contact with the concrete surface. These products will begin to break apart and wear away after one year; however, Impede® IntraSeal will continue to protect your concrete indefinitely. Concrete continues to gain durability the older it gets so using a belt and suspenders approach to protecting the concrete in its early life will definitely pay dividends down the road.
